My paintings are most often of cats. Not only do I adore them, they also seem to symbolize the human condition.

As but a part of the animal world, we humans are driven by the same basic desires and needs as all animals. Cats, in particular, are not shy about making their needs known. I find their shameless egocentricity makes a perfect model, within which I might make a statement or two about man; as I see him, of course. | |
| All of my paintings are alkyd oil on stretched canvas. I use a glazing technique which requires applying hundreds of very thin layers of oil paint; it is time-consuming but results in luminous color and an illusion of depth. |

I was born in Germany and raised in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. In my early youth archaeology and anthropology captured my fascination. Consequently, I earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh and an MA in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania. While working in that field for over a decade, I began painting as a hobby. My cats have been my favorite subject right from the start. Over time my interest in painting eclipsed my interest in archaeology, and I have been painting full time for over 9 years. I feel very fortunate to have been able to do what I love most for a living. |
Below are some of my paintings from the past few years. Please click on a thumbnail to see the enlarged image.
All of these paintings have been sold.
My available work can be seen here. |
Although cats are obviously my favorite subject, I also enjoy painting other animals.
Living in Vermont, I don't have to go far for a model. |

Over the years I have been represented in a number of galleries. Having sold hundreds of paintings on line, I can honestly say that I greatly prefer the internet. Only on the web can I interact directly with art and cat lovers from all over the world, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Please, feel free to email me at heidi@tops-tele.com with any comments or questions, special commissions you might have in mind, and of course pictures of your cats!
